The new face

This is the temporary face of the main character. I'd like to have your opinions before making it definitive.

She is a police woman, and her name is Niki Netsu (熱 ニキ).
(Does anyone get the reference? xD)

Update:
How she looks after Kyrieru's tips:
Thanks K!

    1. I was looking for information about the standard japanese police uniform, and I found that in asia they usually wear hat:

Anyway, I didn't find those hats interesting, so I'll surely make a cap:

  7. Some things to avoid if you're going for an anime style, (Which I assume you are, since it's for DLsite)
1.Don't close off the eyes with a line.
2.The highlight on the eye is usually on the outer edge.
3.Use thin lines, and make sure the hair tapers into a sharp point.

This is just general advice, but don't go too overboard with saturation. Anything above 60-70% is often too much, unless it's for small highlights.

I made some changes as an example. Though some of the changes are merely style differences.

    1. Wow! You definitely know your stuff :)
However, while your take on Niki looks great, it also looks kinda generic anime-esque (not necessarily a bad thing, but also not really Nyarly's art style).
I'd like to see Nyarly's take on your take... lol
      Anyway, good feedback :)

    2. Well, that's just it, if the game is going on the Japanese DLsite, where the majority of sales come from, approaching it with a more american style probably isn't going to go over too well with Japanese players. Even if it's generic, I think it's important to try and achieve that standard, and then go from there.

    3. Kyrieru tips are always welcome. xD
(You guys can't imagine how much he has helped my with my art).

Anyway, I'm going to use most of Kyr's suggestions. For example for the hair. The way he did requires less vertex, so it's better for the game performance. And in addition, it looks better. xD

    4. The new style looks good. :)

    5. I agree that it looks better and it makes sense to draw for your demographic. It's just a shame to have sales impinge on your style if it doesn't have to. Money is money, so I'll be quiet.. just sayin' that you should be drawing for yourself, imo. I don't know if you consider yourself an artist or not, but an artist that conforms for a living is a sad sack.

      Delete
    6. If you think he's going to lose his integrity as an artist by changing his style slightly, I think you should seriously re-evaluate your idea of what an artist is, especially game developers, because that's exactly what they do in order to get work.

You may have the good intentioned idea that he should do what he wants to do, and that it will all somehow pay off in the end, but the art industry just doesn't work that way. Even real game development jobs are in themselves a form of conformity, changing your style and catering to the needs of your team in order to create something that sells, all so that you can do what you love for a living. If you don't make compromises, chances are you just won't have a job.

In other words, I'd rather be a "sad sack" who makes games for a living than an artist who works a depressing day job that has nothing to do with art, just because he can't get a job doing exactly what he wants.

And yes, it is a shame.

    1. Those are ideas for my new game, but I'll surely use them for Sex Realm too (when I'll go back to it).

  9. I don't want to be too criticizing, but it would be great to have a cartoonish character resembling something from an anime, with hair tied up in a ponytail.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I haven't totally abandon the idea of the ponytail. But I relized that I do love the short hair.

Maybe I could add hairstyle options in the game.

I thought 3 talent trees (Diablo II like) in the game:
      - Weapons talent tree (DPS): Points in this tree increase weapon damage, quicker shooting... etc.
      - Athletic talent tree (Tank): Points increase HP, resistance to damage, higher jumping, faster movement.
      - Sex talent tree: Points here will be used to receive less damage from rapes, to make her more attractive to enemies, and to enable some character configuration (like eyes color, hairstyle, boobs size... I don't know yet)

      That's basically my current plan.

      Delete
    2. I'm going to put all my points into sex talents, and then get owned because I'm under powered. Doh, lol. xD

  10. Oops, I didn't see the earlier comments, but if you're going to go with short hair, you could try matching it witha good face, I guess.

  12. Just posting to say I love the short hair. Maybe even going a full crop cut would be refreshing, just to break from the mold.

I'm basically fine, but a bit busy with some real life issues...
Still no job, and no time for programming.

I think you have what it takes to get a good job, and I hope you get it :)

    3. Everyone I know wants you to finish Sex Realm! As a fellow artist, I know how hard it is to get a project from idea to finished project, but Sex Realm was genius! Don't waste that genius! Finish the story! Even if you have to shorten it!

    4. Please do these things in this order:
      1. Reread the threads in which hnyarly's responded. Read those responses carefully.
      2. Try to be sympathetic to hnyarly's situation, and understand that sometimes a compromise is unavoidable. There can be delays, there can be changes, there can even be situations where one can't bow to pressure because of much greater (and far more important) pressures: like getting food on the table or advancing the good things in life.
      3. Simply wait :)

    5. I Agree with the guy above me. We all can wait just do what u need to do and keep us updated with ur issues so we know ur still alive lol.

    6. Thanks for all your interest for me!
Well, I'm still alive, but a bit busy with some real life issues. No work yet, but at least I've had some job interviews by Skype, and I'm waiting for the results.

    1. Actually, so do I. But I think short hair works better for a cop girl, especially in video games. ^^v

    2. Well, that kind of hair is almost final, but I'm not totally sure about it. I could make some changes in her hair along the development. Actually, in my original concept she had ponytail, so I could finally add it.

Also, I could add some hair setup to the game, just to make the character more up to player's preferences.

    1. Well, I'm basically atheistic, but I thank your prayers.
Things are going a bit better. I haven't find any job yet, but at least, I'm healing my heart.

About my games' development, you know:
      - No job => working in my second project.
      - job => working back to Sex Realm.

    2. Being atheistic doesn't mean that I'm right. I can be wrong and god exists, so your prayers can be working after all.

  19. I've been wondering if you've come up with a name for the game yet, and if you could give us a rough ETA of the first installment of the game.

    1. At this point I think it might be better not to bother asking; either he's working on it and it'll be here eventually, or he's not, it won't, and we aren't going to hear another word about it.

    2. - Name: I still don't have a final name for the game. I'm considering different ones, and the most promising name is "Raped Justice" (レイプ正義).
In a near future, I'll surely make a post to receive your suggestions for other possible names.

      - ETA for the first demo: No idea... but I'd like you to have something to start testing with.

      - to Anon: Don't worry, you guys don't bother me. And I love knowing that my game's fans are still there waiting for my next work.
      :)

Those last weeks I've been pretty unmotivated to work. Basically because I'm still trying to decide what to do with my future.
