A matter of perspective

I'm doing some new background items. So, I have to define the perspective. What do you think I have to use? Left column looks more realistic, but right one seems more in the same perspective of mage house or RPG maker games...
Opinions?

  1. the right one seems more similar to other elements of the game's actual version and furthermore is more comparable with Beth's movements (as for the circle of the stone near the mage).
So for me the right one is better as a continuity element with the others in the game.

  2. Left Looks like something out of a side scroller, a lower camera angle with minimal depth. Gives it the look of something you can jump onto and stand on on a 2d plane.

Right definitely looks like something from a RPG maker game, a higher angle which presents all angles of it well enough for you to know which "block" it is in so you walk around it.

The one on the left seems to "fit in" better with the current perspective you have in your game. I would say your current camera angle is at something like a almost 2d/side scroller feel.

If you are looking to flesh out the visuals/world the right one would be more atmospheric and give a clear and solid look/feel/depth to the world. It would result in a much more 3d esque world. But it might bring issues to the look of animations, but its hard to say in theory.

Well thats my opinion, its nice to see you at it again :)

  3. The one on the right looks awkward, like it's falling over, and I wouldn't suggest it for any game I can think of currently, unless it was, in fact, one frame of an animated sprite falling over, from background to foreground. (Which admittedly would possibly make for an interesting obstacle for the player to avoid.) The one on the left looks a lot more fitting otherwise.

  4. Right column look beter, but you need to bring top and bottom surface like this /____\

  5. well it depends i think. Do you intend to make these columns part of a larger structure or will they just be by themselves. If they are by themselves, it's the one on the left, definitely. The one on the right just looks like its forced and goofy, as if your thinking way too hard about this <3. If it is part of a larger structure, though, I don't know. I'd have to see the whole thing before i decided.
I think just in general though its best to go with what looks best and feels natural. Don't make things more complicated than they have to be.

  6. The left one looks kind of out of place to me.

  7. right one definitely looks way more fitting to the game

  8. In my opinion, something in the middle of the two would work well.

  9. right fits the rest of the game

  10. i think the right one would fit better with the rest of the EXISTING elements, the left one looks better, but you made the rogue female character in a more realistic way than beth, that made me believe you would be improving your skills as an animator, or try different styles, só i would say the one on the right if you plan on putting it in some other map( which would also be more realistic) or the one on the left if you want on this one.
course this is only my opinion i've seen your work so far and it's amazing, i'm sure you gonna make it work either way.

ps: i liked the left one best even if it clashes with the rest of the scenario

  11. Right one fits the game better, and it's clear that when you tile them together their tops would sit perfectly. Though, it's gonna be one ugly column.

    1. and while I'm all logged in, I was extremely drunk when I published ^^^^^.
I mean, I know for a fact that I cannot attempt to draw a column without it looking like
a dick, so why would i criticize other people's work?

    2. I'm sorry, but you didn't publish this comment. Was some other comment yours?

  12. The left one fits the game better, by far. Look at the stump in the picture. To fit the right column, the top of the stump should be a circle, to match the perfect square: we're seeing the objects more or less from above, not sidelong. You see the same a bit less clearly with the background trees: you can see the branches disappearing into the leaves, as though you're viewing them from the side, rather than a round treetop obscuring most of the trunk beneath it. You might adjust the left column just a touch toward the perspective of the right one, but the right one definitely looks very wrong.

  13. I would suggest either. The environment and Beth's movement favors the right column, but Beth herself favors the 2D sidescroller type, or the left one. Understanding then that either will fit in or seem out of place, depending on circumstances, I would suggest the left one, as the player will find Beth getting railed more interesting than the trees. The fact that Beth will "disappear" more fully with the left one when moving behind it also makes the "camera" or viewpoint of the player seem more certain. As the previous anon said; maybe add Beth herself to the picture to see more clearly what we mean

  14. Hello, i've finally found your blog! Some time ago (maybe last year) i forgot the name of your game and clean my internet history so i couldn't come back to your blog xD

I've downloaded the v0.402 and i'm loving the new items and monsters but i have some questions.

1- Is there any new h-scene? I only found the old ones (gnome, slime, elf guy and wolf).

2- How do i get the safeguard so i can pass the bridge?

    Thank you.

    1. Forgot to mention that the game crashes sometimes, is that normal?

    2. 1 - With a little planning I believe it's possible to have Beth frig herself on the gnome's bed (ye gods, I nearly typed "head"... that would be most awkward)

2 - I don't think the bridge is currently passable.

And no, it's not normal for this (or any game at all) to crash. Ever. Even Bethesda's games shouldn't crash.

    3. But the game keeps crashing from time to time and when i close the game and open it again, i lose my saves :(

    4. Squark is right in his two answers. Also, testers told me that the new zone swap algorithm seems to fix the crashes.

About the saves issue, read the answer to the next anon. By the way, some time ago I tried to do a new saving algorithm and I was unable to. Maybe I should try harder.

    1. It seems as your operative system doesn't allow Flash to store cookies. Try allowing it.

    2. I don't know how to do that, i tried googleing it but it only shows how to do it in a browser.

    5. Hmm, no you don't. All you have to do is allow Flash to store locally.
If I was an ass, I'd leave it at that, but here's how I got things to work (tested on another flash game):
      Firstly, this:
      http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.html
, hit Edit Locations specify the folder where SM has a subfolder (in my case "F:\Games\Flash").
Next, click the second picture tab (it looks like a globe with a folder with a down arrow) and specify how much space you want to give Flash. I gave it 10MB just to be safe. Now close the page. There is no "Apply Settings" button; it's done automagically.
In case saving still fails, try again. If it still won't, restart your computer. It might throw up a small confirmation box the next time you try to save, so just hit allow.

      This should work for SR.

    6. Tried it, it still doesn't work :( but thanks for the help

  16. Hnyarly. Use the bottom of the right column. And the top of the left column. It will look perfect.

    Hruma.

  17. For the moment, as some people pointed, I'm more into the right one. It looks weird, but makes more sense with the game (keep in mind mage's house style), and also with the king of RPG maker graphics:

  19. Greetings!

Would be nice if you consider uploading your game to the adult platform Kimochi. As a fan i would like to see it there. This is their form to apply: https://kimochi.co/publisher

Good luck and thanks for the game!

  20. I am so looking forward to the release of this next update, I remember playing this back on Lok almost 4 years ago, and I am still just as excited. This is such a great game and I think it should get more attention than it does. Keep doing the amazing job your doing H Nyarly.
